Calibration Methods for Silicon Photodiode Pyranometers used in Rotating Shadowband Radiometers
نویسنده
چکیده
Silicon photodiode pyranometers have been studied extensively for application in solar energy resource assessment instruments. An example is the LI-COR, Inc. 200SZ detector that is used in rotating shadowband radiometers. While excellent results have been achieved LI-COR, Inc. calibration methods are not fully disclosed and LI-COR’s stated +/5% accuracy is less than desirable. This research aims to better define and improve the methodology for calibration and application of LI-COR sensors used in Irradiance, Inc. RSR2TM rotating shadowband pyranometer systems.

Solar Cell Based Pyranometers: Evaluation of the Diffuse Response
The responsivity to diffuse radiation of a solar cell based pyranometer is studied. Diffuse measurements are made using a shade disk for a LiCor Pyranometer and an Eppley PSP pyranometer mounted side by side on an automatic tracker. The difference in the diffuse responsivity varies by 30 to 40% between cloudy conditions and clear skies. This difference is attributed to the spectral dependence o...

Here we report the results of three parallel efforts: the recal0.3%. Likewise, Joe Michalsky went to the SGP site with a ibration and reanalysis of pyrano-metric data from Southern recently calibrated Eppley Normal Incidence Pyrheliometer Great Plains (SGP) to improve its accuracy, use of the (NIP) and an Eppley Precision Spectral Pyranometer (PSP). multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer (M...
متن کاملRemoving Systematic Errors from Rotating Shadowband Pyranometer Data
Rotating Shadowband Pyranometers (RSPs) have been deployed to measure global, beam, and diffuse irradiance because they do not require manual adjustment of trackers. However, a RSP requires the use of solar cell based pyranometers which underestimate diffuse irradiance by 20-30% under clear sky conditions. Algorithms were derived to address many of the systematic errors in solar cell based meas...
متن کاملColumnar water vapor retrievals from multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer data
[1] The multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer (MFRSR) measures direct and diffuse irradiances in the visible and near-infrared spectral range. In addition to characteristics of atmospheric aerosols, MFRSR data also allow retrieval of precipitable water vapor (PWV) column amounts, which are determined from the direct normal irradiances in the 940-nm spectral channel. The HITRAN 2004 spectra...

The MultiFilter Rotating Shadowband Radiometer (MFRSR) (Harrison and Michalsky 1994a, 1994b) measures atmospheric column extinction of the direct solar beam and the diffuse radiation intensity at six wavelengths. Located at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York City, the instrument has six spectral channels at 415, 501, 616, 672, 870...
